The showtimes will be as follows:

On the 13 and 14, the doors will open at 7:30pm, and the shows will start at 8pm.

On the 15, the doors will open at 1:30, and the show starts at 2pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the SJSU Event Center (Students:$8, General:$15), at the door (Students: $15, General: $20), or on ticketmaster.com.

Vagina Grams for Sale!

It’s that time of year again. V-Season is in full swing, and that means it’s time for Vagina Chocolates! 

We will be selling these beauties starting tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30th.

There are three ways you can purchase:

1) By dropping by the VDay info table located near the SJSU Event Center. We will be there from 10am-2pm most days of the week.

2) By special order from us through sjsuvday@gmail.com

3) By coming to the SJSU production of the Vagina Monologues! Dates and info to come.

Happy Summer Solstice!

This summer we continue to fundraise and outreach for the YWCA Rape Crisis Center, Asian Women’s Home, and the global campaign for V-Day.  So far we have fundraised over $100 at Women Rising: A Night of Creative Empowerment II, and throughout the Student Success Fair at SJSU Frosh Orientation.

We look forward to meeting all of you through our future events and during the September auditions.

We are humbled to announce that we were honored through national and international recognition for our collaborative work with the SJSU Women’s Resource Center to address bystander prevention of sexual assault, violence, and street harassment.

This mural and the following videos were featured in the Hollaback San Jose: End Street Harassment Room in the 8th Annual Tunnel of Oppression, hosted by the MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center at San Jose State University from Tuesday April 3, 2012 to Thursday April 5, 2012.

We have the power to end street harassment.

This spring break, we created a film with womyn bystanders and Yan Yin K. Choy’s spoken word, “You Wanted to See My Vagina: We Have the Power To End Street Harassment.”

Chara Bui also produced an animation video to End Street Harassment.

We also worked with male-identified allies to inspire bystander prevention, Shit Men Say to Men Who Say Shit to Womyn on the Streets of San José! .

 A Night of Creative Empowerment II is hosted and organized by Women Rising and sponsored by the community to showcase the multitude of female artists in the Bay Area.

 We are a grassroots collective that focuses on women empowerment through the arts and open dialogue. Through artistic expression, Women Rising encourages women of all ages to rise up and become leaders in the movement towards discovering one’s identity amongst the perpetual misrepresentation and under-representation in our social culture.

  In October of 2010 Women Rising hosted their first Night of Creative Empowerment at Room 404 at the Citadel in downtown San Jose. The night was full of positive energy and joyous support from the community—and went incredibly well. This year we will host a panel with inspirational women from our community, as well as live music, poetry, art, and performances at Backwater Arts Gallery ( 681 Quinn Ave, San Jose CA 95112).

 

A small donation of $5 will be collected at the front door which will help our collective fund this event, future events, and our community mural project set to be completed this summer in downtown San Jose .

Why: Donations will be accepted for the 2012 SJSU V-Day beneficiaries of the women and children of Haiti, the YWCA Rape Crisis Center, and Asian Americans for Community Involvement’s Asian Women’s Home—whose programming supports survivors of violence and work toward the ending of violence against women and girls.  We hope to raise awareness of the herstories and legacies that are unnoticed, unwritten, unspoken, or erased from everyday dialogue, education,, the media, and our communities.

700 Vagina Warriors: We are Over It!

This year over 700 students and community members came to support our three-day 10th annual benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues,”fundraising over $3800 for the YWCA Rape Crisis Center, Asian Women’s Home, and the women and girls of Haiti.  Read our coverage here.
